Police Officer Truong Thai was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call in the 800 block of East Flamingo Road at about 1:00 am.
The subject opened fire from inside his vehicle as Officer Thai and his partner attempted to make contact with him at the intersection of East Flamingo Road and South University Center Drive. Officer Thai and a civilian were both struck by the subject's shots. Officer Thai succumbed to his wounds while being transported to a local hospital.
The man fled the scene but was apprehended by a police canine approximately three miles away after refusing to exit his vehicle.
Officer Thai had served with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for 23 years and was assigned to the South Central Area Command. He is survived by his daughter.

Detective Justin Terry was killed when a steel height-restriction beam fell onto his department vehicle on U.S. 95, near Route 215, at about 7:00 am.
The beam had been installed to prevent over-height vehicles from entering the construction zone where a new overpass was being built. A tractor-trailer pulling a piece of large equipment struck the beam, causing it to fall onto Detective Terry's vehicle as he also drove beneath it.
Detective Terry had served with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for 21 years and was assigned to the Homicide Sex Crimes Bureau. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

When he wasn’t on duty, he loved fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family. Officer Contreras, 50, is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and son, Aaron.

Sgt. Douglas King joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on August 12, 2004. He was assigned to patrol in the Summerlin Area Command. King was one of the first officers to arrive at the Route 91 Harvest festival mass shooting in October 2017, exemplifying his unwavering willingness to protect and serve at any cost. On August 23, 2021, he died from complications of COVID-19 before he was to receive the department’s Medal of Honor for his heroic actions during a domestic violence call. The Medal of Honor – bestowed to officers who risk their life beyond the normal call of duty to protect or save a human life – was awarded posthumously. King, known for his good-natured disposition, was popular among his peers and was a devoted husband, father and son. Family will forever remember him as dedicated, honorable, loyal, and beloved. He is survived by his wife, Cinnamon, and daughters Scarlett, Tommi and Hannah.

He was known as a dedicated family man whose life reminded fellow officers that their families come first. Closi, 48, died from complications of COVID-19 on August 11, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and children Nicola and Jacob.

Trooper Micah May was hit and passed away while trying to stop a carjacking suspect on Interstate 15 on Tuesday.
Trooper May was deploying stop-sticks on I-15 near Sahara Avenue when he was struck by the suspect’s car, NHP said in a statement.
May was airlifted to UMC, and he passed away.
