The Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation exists to honor the sacrifice of current and former members of the Southern Nevada Law Enforcement community. Our dedicated volunteer board ensures those who have given their lives in the line of duty will never be forgotten.
On October 4, 2001, the City of Las Vegas in conjunction with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Injured Police Officers Fund, and the support of the community, established the Police Memorial Park. The park is located at 3250 Metro Academy Way, near the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Training Academy.
Within the Police Memorial Park a memorial walkway was dedicated to preserve and honor the memory of Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Officers who have given their lives in the line of duty. Along the walkway there is a memorial boulder with the officers name, agency and date of incident. A tree has been planted adjacent to each boulder.
On October 22, 2003, The City of Las Vegas in conjunction with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Injured Police Officers Fund and the generous support of the community dedicated the Police Memorial Wall within the Police Memorial Park. The Memorial Wall was designated as a way to memorialize officers, civilians, and K-9 partners who dedicated their lives and careers to protecting Southern Nevada. Those named on the wall passed away following their honorable careers.
Also within the park is a historical boulder engraved with the officer's name, department and date of incident. This large historical memorial boulder served to memorialize the officers killed in the line of duty while serving with a Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Agency. The Memorial Boulder was originally placed at Las Vegas City Hall / Metro Police Main Station and has recently been moved to the Police Memorial Park.
On May 21, 2009 a beautiful new Monument was established within the Police Memorial Park. This Monument, designed by local artist Adolfo Gonzalez, was donated, built, and erected by local business YESCO Las Vegas. This Monument is designed, thru the artists' vision, to acknowledge the contributions of all members of the Southern Nevada Law Enforcement community including local, state, and federal agencies.
In April 2018, the SNLEMF merged with the Metropolitan Police Museum
m and Historical Society which adds preserving the history and artifacts of the men and women of law enforcement from the communities of Southern Nevada to our mission.
These Memorials, the Park and the Monument have been established and maintained over time, by the generosity of several people such as Summerlin Rotary Club, the Injured Police Officers Fund and the City of Las Vegas. However, no single group has been established to assume responsibility for the maintenance and administration of these Memorials. The Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Foundation proposes to accomplish this. The Law Enforcement Park grounds and Monument will remain the ownership of the City of Las Vegas, who will be responsible for their administration and maintenance.
The Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Foundation will act to obtain the materials such as trees, boulders, and engraved bricks to memorialize those officers and personnel when the need arises, and coordinate with the families and agencies as necessary.
The Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Foundation will work to fund the maintenance of these various monuments, including the Memorial Walkway, the Memorial Wall, Flag Pole, Boulder and Kiosk. The Foundation will conduct fundraising events for this purpose, as well as public outreach and education regarding the purpose of the Monument, Memorials, and Park.
