Corrections Officer Kyle Eng suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after struggling with an inmate in the Las Vegas Detention Center.
He began to feel ill after the inmate was subdued and went to the bathroom. Other officers found him unconscious in the bathroom and immediately began CPR. He was transported to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Officer Eng had served with the Las Vegas Department of Public Safety for only seven months.

Police Officer Charles Hartfield was shot and killed while taking off duty action to rescue citizens during the active shooter incident at the Route 91 Harvest Festival.
Officer Hartfield was attending the concert, with his wife, when a gunman opened fire on the audience from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. Hundreds of citizens were struck by gunfire. Officer Hartfield immediately attempted to assist some of the casualties when he was fatally struck by one of the rounds.

Detective Chad Parque succumbed to injuries sustained the previous day when his department vehicle was struck head-on by another vehicle on Martin Luther King Boulevard, near Carey Avenue, at approximately 2:00pm.
He had just left the North Las Vegas Justice Court when the other vehicle, which was traveling the wrong way on the roadway, struck his vehicle. A third vehicle then collided with his car. Rescue personnel extricated him from the vehicle and transported him to University Medical Center, where he passed away approximately 12 hours later.
Detective Parque had served with North Las Vegas Police Department for 10 years. He is survived by his wife, children, and siblings.

Officer Alyn Beck joined LVMPD on August 21, 2001 and served in the Patrol Division as well as several training assignments. Officer Beck became a Field Training officer in 2006 and continued his passion to train by becoming an Academy Training Instructor in 2007. He was renowned by those he trained as a tough and tenacious instructor in defensive tactics, MACTAC and strength training. In 2014, he returned to the Patrol Division serving in the Northeast Area Command while he advanced through the promotional process to become a sergeant. Officer Beck was known for his love of his family and willingness to help his fellow officers and friends with any task. On June 8, 2014 Officer Beck and his partner Officer Igor Soldo were ambushed and fatally wounded by two armed suspects. Officer Beck is survived by his wife and three children.

Officer Igor Soldo joined LVMPD on April 9, 2006. He was a graduate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and known as an avid Cornhuskers fan. During his time at LVMPD, he served in the Patrol Division as well as working in the Problem Solving Unit at Northeast Area Command. He was a Firearms Instructor since 2008 and taught several academies at the range. Soldo was a native of Bosnia, but his family left the war-torn country and moved to Nebraska to build a better life when Officer Soldo was young. He was well traveled and became a voracious reader and had a passion for knowledge. Family and friends described him as a very private person who didn’t like the spotlight but always did for others. On June 8, 2014 Officer Soldo and his partner Officer Alyn Beck were ambushed and fatally wounded by two armed suspects. Officer Soldo is survived by his wife, son, parents, siblings and extended family.

Officer David VanBuskirk joined LVMPD October 6, 1999, and served in both Patrol and Narcotics until February 24, 2007 when he was assigned to Metro’s Search and Rescue section. A Southern Nevada native, David was both a loyal and caring friend and an eager mentor to all he knew. As a Search and Rescue Officer he was recognized as a true hero, saving numerous lives during the hundreds of rescues he performed.
On July 23, 2013 LVMPD Search and Rescue Officer David VanBuskirk died from injuries sustained when he was separated from his safety equipment while suspended below the aircraft rescuing an injured subject. The fall took place in the late night hours of July 22 as he conducted a helicopter rescue of a stranded hiker on Mount Charleston. His last action was to secure the hiker to the helicopter’s hoist cable, saving the man’s life. Officer VanBuskirk was 36 years old and is survived by his wife, his mother and an extended family.

Correctional Officer Tracy Hardin died from what is believed to be an injury suffered while struggling with an inmate at the High Desert State Prison. Officer Hardin was speaking to the inmate about disciplinary issues when the inmate assaulted him. During the ensuing struggle Officer Hardin injured his ankle. On January 20th, 2012, Officer Hardin was leaving the prison following his shift when he suddenly pulled into a pulloff outside of the employee parking lot. Seeing this, other officers immediately went to check on him and discovered he wasn't breathing. They immediately initiated CPR but were unable to revive him.
The coroner subsequently ruled his death a homicide and charges are pending against the inmate who assaulted him.
Officer Hardin had served with the Nevada Department of Corrections for 5-1/2 years.

Corrections Officer Hunter suffered a medical emergency while on duty at the Clark County Detention Center. Officer Hunter responded to a code red emergency regarding a fight between two inmates and ran to the scene on the third floor. Two hours later, Officer Hunter clutched his chest and complained of not feeling well. Wile driving home, Officer Hunter struck a vehicle, and then crashed into a concrete wall. Officer Hunter was transported to the hospital where he died.

Deputy Ian Deutch was shot and killed as he and another deputy responded to a shooting call at a casino in Pahrump, Nevada. A woman had called 911 and then fled to the casino during a domestic disturbance in which a man had fired a rifle at her. As Deputy Deutch and his partner exited their vehicle the man, who had followed her to the casino, opened fire on them with an SKS rifle. Deputy Deutch was struck three times in the abdomen, with the rounds penetrating his vest. A third responding deputy returned fire and killed the suspect.
Deputy Deutch was a member of the Nevada Army National Guard and was on his second day back on duty after returning from a deployment to Afghanistan. He had served with the Nye County Sheriff's Office for six year.

Special Deputy Marshal Stanley Cooper was shot and killed when a man entered the lobby of the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse in Las Vegas, Nevada, and opened fire with a shotgun. A United States deputy marshal was also wounded. The suspect was pursued across the street by several deputy marshals. He was shot and killed in the ensuing gunfight with the officers.
Special Deputy Marshal Cooper had served as a federally deputized court officer for 16 years after retiring with 26 years as a police officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
