Technical Sergeant Charles Simons died two days after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic near a gate of Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. The base had received a bomb threat at the main gate and several traffic control points had been setup. After the bomb threat was cleared, officers were attempting to clear the checkpoints of the heavy traffic. A motorist who was upset about the delays exited his lane of traffic and drove around the other stopped vehicles. Sergeant Simons was struck at an intersection by the vehicle, which was traveling at approximately 45 mph in an area with a posted limit of 25 mph. Sergeant Simons was taken to a local hospital where he remained unconscious until passing away two days after the incident

Officer Russell L. Peterson joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on April 17, 1990. He served approximately six years in Patrol, Training, and the Gang Unit before transferring to Search & Rescue in May 1996.
On the afternoon of March 24, 1998, Officer Peterson and a volunteer were on a training exercise at Mt. Charleston. While Officer Peterson was belaying the volunteer on an ice climb on a frozen waterfall, a large piece of ice broke loose from high on the mountain.
The ice narrowly missed the volunteer before hitting Officer Peterson, killing him instantly. Officer Peterson died one day before celebrating his 40th birthday. He is survived by his wife, Lesa.

Deputy Downs suffered a heart attack following a struggle in which he was punched in the chest. The incident occurred after several deputies responded to a report of a man attempting to gain entry into a house after he had been thrown out by the owner. A violent struggle ensued between the suspect and the deputies in which Deputy Downs was punched in the chest. He collapsed at the scene and died a short time later at the hospital. Deputy Downs was survived by his wife and two children.

Officer Donald C. Weese joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on September 11, 1990.
On the night of October 23, 1992, while working as a Field Training Officer with his partner, Eric Kerns, he responded to a gun call. While en route, his patrol car collided with another vehicle and then struck a traffic signal pole at Charleston and Eastern.
Officer Weese sustained massive injuries and died at the scene. This traffic accident occurred just 25 minutes before the end of Officer Weese's shift.
Officer Weese, a large muscular man who was extremely well liked, was always known to be "gentle and professional" in his contacts with the public.
His final assignment was with Squad NE31 at the Northeast Area Command.
He was 25 years of age at the time of his death and was survived by an older sister, a younger brother, and his parents.

Special Agent Bailey was shot and killed in Las Vegas, Nevada. Agent Bailey was in a bank when it was robbed. He identified himself as an agent and ordered the man to stop. As the man turned Agent Bailey fired a round, but missed the suspect. However, he was able to take the suspect into custody and place him on a chair. As Special Agent Bailey's attention was diverted the suspect lunged at him and knocked his gun out of his hand. The suspect recovered his own weapon and shot Agent Bailey three times.
Agent Bailey had been with the agency for 21 years and was survived by his wife and two daughters.
